for the Price of One!

Vancouver indie band KICK in the EYE has a new release entitled

Wondering who are the new Canadian heroes
Wondering why Stompin’ Tom’s music isn’t played more often
Being infatuated with the Trailer Park Boys TV show
Enjoying the music of a First Nations Blues legend

March 30th 2015: KICK in the EYE releases NEW SINGLE GOING CLEAR

This Machine Kills Corporations is the new full-length release from Kick in the Eye. The band was as much inspired by alternative news media (Alex Jones, Gerald Celente, Max Keiser, and David Icke.) as it was inspired by political rock and roll (John Lennon, CSN&Y, and The Clash). These guitar and synth driven “hippie-punk” songs are an attack on the corporate oligarchs and political elite who raid the public coffers, destroy national identities, ruin environments, cripple health and mental well-being, thwart social interaction, exacerbate conflict and suffering, limit freedoms, and patronise a culture of mediocrity.

The phrase, This Machine KILLS Corporations, is a play on the words folk icon Woody Guthrie famously scrawled on his guitar: “This Machine Kills Fascists”. The CD’s title started as a slogan on a T-shirt that Kick in the Eye first distributed at Occupy Vancouver.

Kick in the Eye realise the time has long since past for artists to sit idly by, removed from the political arena. Artists have more than a right to speak out; they have a duty. Because of this political-art philosophy, Marian and Donnie have written lyrics concerned with political and social take-overs (“Trouble”, “Turned to Machine”, “Paradise Disaster”, “Ever Heard of Bilderberg?”), but also try to provide inspiration (“Keep Your Head Up”, “The Future is Made”, “Thirsty for Freedom”). They are careful to provide balance, juxtaposing alarming information and distorted sounds with reassuring sentiments and uplifting melodies.

This Machine Kills Corporations is the band’s fifth full-length release and the CD is available at their website (kickintheeye.ca) or can be downloaded at bandcamp.com.

You can view their music videos for many of the album’s songs on YouTube. Kick in the Eye’s previous album Sea of Bitterness charted on college radio stations from coast to coast. They have made appearances at festivals across Canada including MusicWest and NXNE.
